Set Up MS Edge Browser
This section is a summary of how the settings in Microsoft Edge Browser may be accessed and changed.
The image below shows Microsoft Edge with its' standard opening page.
The Edge browser uses tabs and extra tabs can be created using the + symbol next to the rightmost tab.
You may wish to change the start page or make other adjustments and this is possible using the Settings Menu
The main Menu can be accessed by clicking the three dots at the top right hand side.
This image shows the menu and where to access the Settings for the browser.
It is also possible to access the Advanced Settings at the bottom of the main Settings menu.
Preferred Search Engine
Open the Menu, select the Settings menu and at the bottom of this menu select Advanced Settings.
Scroll down until the section labelled Privacy and Services appears.
You can see a button for Change search engine.
Click on the button and select a search engine from the list.
If the list shows only Bing, you will have to return to the browser and open the search engine of your choice in a new tab.
When you return to the menu the new search engine you chose will also be listed and you can then choose this as default.
Toolbars
Edge allows the favourites (bookmarks) toolbar to be added to the browser.
The red arrow in the image below shows how to activate the toolbar if desired.
Browser Start Condition
The settings menu provides an option to change the way the browser starts.
The menu item Open Microsoft Edge with allows the choice of start up conditions listed in the dropdown shown.
Note that there is currently a fault condition in some versions of Edge that prevents the opening of Previous Pages.
Customise Default Pages
The Home button can be displayed and if this is on the box below can be set to Start Page, New Tab Page or A specific page.
In the case of the specific page choice an additional box allows the entry of the URL of that specific page.
This provides a choice for the Home page (not the same as the Start Page) which could be a favourite website, a search engine or other useful page.
Extensions
An extension is a small addition to the browser that can enhance or add features to the browser.
There are a wide range of extensions from language translators to advertising blockers.
Open the Settings menu and find the separate entry for Extensions.
Click on the Extensions option
A list of 'Suggested' Extensions is shown but by scrolling to the bottom 'Explore more extensions' can be clicked.
This opens the Windows Store to give access to a wide range of optional extensions.
Selecting an extension gives you details and you can then choose to have it installed if you wish.
It is suggested that extensions be kept to a minimum to minimise security issues.
